Review of Warsenal - "Feast Your Eyes"

Montreal, Quebec, Canada has long been simmering with fantastic metal acts. Going as far back as the 1980’s, bands like Dead Brain Cells, Voivod, and Cryptopsy (all of whom are still active, by the by) paved the way for the rise of 90’s Montreal acts such as Necronomicon, Kataklysm, and Neuraxis. Further still, the new millennium saw the coming of artists like Despised Icon, The Agonist, Beneath The Massacre, Beyond Creation, Ex Deo, and Erimha, just to name some of the more well-knowns.

This bustling, hockey-loving town just an hour’s ride north of the Canadian/United States border at Vermont is – and has always been – a metal hotbed, to say the least.

And now, another act hailing from the far northern suburbs of Montreal is releasing a sophomore full-length to vie for your precious listening attention. Enter Warsenal’s Feast Your Eyes (Svart Records): nine smashing speed/thrash metal songs that shred, slash, and gash their way through your ears to directly invade your brain.

Ripping and rapid-fire, Feast Your Eyes by Warsenal showcases all the promise that this talented three-piece has in its arsenal (no pun intended). Shredding solos over breakneck rhythms, bass, and drums; gritty, aggressive vocals and lyrics; clever, catchy, and hook-laden composing...all are on full display on these nine remarkable tracks. In short, Feast Your Eyes is fucking sick.

Some of the finest cuts on this grade-A album include the opener, “Forever Lost”, the anthemic “Lords of Rifftown”, the deliciously shred-filled “Insatiable Hunger”, and the frenetic frenzy of “Burn the Ships”.

Warsenal’s Feast Your Eyes is out on November 15th, 2019. Press play below to check out the official video for “Forever Lost”, and don’t forget to purchase a copy of the album if you like what you’ve read and what you hear!
